Modular Building Designs

Innovation and Aesthetics

Thanks to the integration of 3D and 4D software, state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies, and mechanized quality control, modular building designs offer a wide range of residential, commercial and industrial options.

Modular structures can be designed as single- or multi-story buildings and their uses are unlimited.  When you need administrative space, for example, they can be configured with individual offices, conference rooms, and large open spaces for cubicles. Modular churches can be virtually any shape or size with pitched shingled roofs, bell towers, and skylights. And modular classrooms can also easily accommodate libraries, science labs, gymnasiums, bookstores and other functional spaces.

Modular Building Designs

To explore the vast possibilities for modular designs today, take a look at several recent modular building projects that earned Awards of Distinction from the Modular Building Institute.

Education

Modular Genius’ innovative modular design for the 7,200 square foot Barrie School research learning lab in Silver Spring, MD, involved tall ceilings, moveable walls and lots of windows. The building can be converted into large and small learning spaces or to a large lecture room, as needed. The eco-friendly structure was built from reclaimed materials and recycled post-consumer products, and includes non-toxic paints and an elaborate waste water management system. The project was completed in 121 days.

Housing

The state-of-the-art Paintbrush residence for seasonal employees at Old Faithful Village in Yellowstone National Park is a 42,600 square foot, 78-unit, two-story modular structure, and represents the first platinum-rated LEED certification achieved by a concession operator inside a national park. The modular process allowed for a speedy schedule while minimizing waste and maximizing efficiency during construction.

Assembly

This modular church building is an excellent example of a used modular building that was remodeled and repurposed for a new use. Originally used in a retail setting, it was renovated for use as a chapel by the St. Sharbel Mission in Las Vegas, Nevada. The goal was to coordinate with existing modular classrooms and an on-site stick-built building while achieving an “Old World” look, complete with stone bell tower. The church saved $1 million by utilizing modular construction, and the project was completed in 122 days.

Healthcare

This 13,325 square foot modular health care clinic at Ida G. Israel Health Center in Brooklyn, NY replaced one lost in Hurricane Sandy. Permanent modular construction was ideal in order to get the clinic up and running quickly. The structure features a storefront entryway with lots of natural light, factory applied thin-brick exterior, ceramic tiled restrooms and interior offices with clean, smooth interior finishes for ease of maintenance. The project was completed in 239 days and met strict FEMA budget requirements, stringent NYC building codes and Dept. of Health regulations.

Prefabricated buildings have grown in popularity, primarily because their attractive architectural designs are compatible with any landscape and because they offer you high quality, flexibility, speedy completion, substantial cost savings and reduced environmental impact.

You will find innovative modular building designs and aesthetics suitable for every industry today, including education, healthcare, administration, hospitality and retail. When you need to add space in virtually any environment, consider buying modular.
